Conserve Electricity

Dishwashers

· Another way to conserve electricity is that your dishwasher works best with a full load. Since 80-90% of the energy used in dishwashers go to heating water, you can save energy and save money by running the dishwater only when the dishwasher  is full. For example, running a half-filled dishwasher twice uses two times as much energy as running a full dishwasher load once.

· Washing dishes by hand probably won’t save energy or money. In fact, you can probably conserve  energy by using the dishwasher since hand-washing usually requires a significant amount of hot water.

· When shopping for a new dishwasher, be sure to look for models that require less hot water is a great way how to conserve. Dishwashers will differ in the number of gallons of hot water used in wash cycle. The manufacturer specifications or, better yet, the Energy Guide label should list this information .

· Most new dishwashers will have an internal water heater that raises the temperature of the incoming water to 60 degrees celsius. This device will allow you to turn down the temperature of the hot water heater in your house and still have your dishes washed thoroughly. This is a great way in how to conserve electricity as you use much less hot water.

· Use only dishwasher detergent. Other cleaning agents will block the washing action, which causes overflow and possible damage to the appliance.

· Check the filter very frequently to be sure it's not clogged with food to save money on your energy bills.
