Do not blame only the refrigerator and freezer for your steep electricity bills. An Australian study has concluded that video game consoles as well as plasma flat-screen TVs are some of the major electricity guzzlers, even when they are left on standby
The study by Choice said that Sony Corporations Playstation 3, followed by Microsoft's Xbox 360 and then plasma television sets, were the biggest consumers of energy. Highest on a list of 16 electronic devices that were tested, including stereo systems, laptops, and DVD players.
The tests discovered that leaving a Playstation 3 on, even while not in use, would cost five times more than it would take to run a fridge for the same year long period, the study said. It provides a great opportunity to conserve and save money.
"The plasma TV was also a very electricity hungry device. It consumed over four times more power than a traditional non-digital/analog set. The desktop computer was third on the list.
The report strongly advised users how to conserve electricity by unplugging their electronic devices at the source, rather than just turn the power off. Stand by mode is a power hungry mode.
